Bayanihan Performs in Brussels, Paris and
Monaco |
|
|
|
AFTER
50 years, the Bayanihan Philippine National Dance
Company returned to Brussels with a performance at the
Woluwe Cultural Center. Ambassador Cristina Ortega
invited the dance company for the 110th anniversary
celebration of Philippine Independence. Performing for
more than 600 diplomats, government officials and
members of the Filipino community, Bayanihan again
awakened the renewed pride among Filipinos in Belgium
and Luxembourg with its sterling performance, which
earned the group a standing ovation that lasted 10
minutes.
It
will be recalled that Bayanihan made its international
debut with a performance during the Brussels Universal
Exposition Trade in 1958.
After
Brussels, Dr. Stephen Zuellig and Pasy Zobel de Ayala
played host to the Bayanihan at the Hotel de Paris in
Monte Carlo. The company had to do an en core for
Prince Albert of Monaco, who dropped in at the height of
the performance.
From
Monaco, the troupe performed at the Unesco Hall in Paris
in a one-hour program hosted by Ambassador Jose Zaide. |

Dis-‘Serbis’ |
|
|
MY major complaint about
Brilliante Mendoza’s Serbis is not the failure of its oral
service but its aural disservice to the human ears. Halfway
through the film I was half-cupping my ears to save whatever
dialogue I could salvage from this elegy to stand-alone
moviehouses and the industry they spawn in their ruins:
prostitution and perversion, if we may believe the ideology
of this film. |
