CLASSES
at all levels are suspended Monday in Metro Manila and
in 12 provinces in Luzon.
The
provinces which along with Metro Manila were heavily
affected by Typhoon Frank (international codename
Fengshen) are Cavite, Rizal, Batangas, Bulacan,
Pampanga, Tarlac, Pangasinan, Zambales, Benguet, Bataan,
La Union and Ilocos Norte.
Education Secretary Jesli Lapus announced the suspension
of classes at both the elementary and secondary levels
Sunday afternoon. A few hours later, Commission on
Higher Education Secretary Romulo Neri declared the
suspension of classes at the college or tertiary level.
Lapus
said he suspended classes even if typhoon signals are
lowered in the affected regions by Monday because they
still have areas that are heavily flooded and because
Pagasa said the southwest monsoon might bring more rain
despite lower typhoon signals.
For
other areas not covered by the DepEd declaration, Lapus
leaves this to the discretion of local and school
officials to decide on class suspensions based on their
respective situations.
Neri
said Ched suspended college classes “in due
consideration to the students and their families to
resettle after the storm.” |
