  • New bio on ‘ALC’ shares precious
    life lessons with young readers

A NEW biography on the life of businessman Antonio L. Cabangon Chua, founder of the highly diversified Fortune Group of Companies, is now off the press.

Authored by award-winning writers Jose F. Lacaba and Eric S. Caruncho, the 210-page color-printed book The Continuing Saga of Success is a sequel to the earlier published version penned by National Artist Nick Joaquin.          Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales, the archbishop of Manila, wrote the foreword and writer Marra PL. Lanot, the introduction.

Fondly called “Tony” by friends, the self-made and self-effacing multimillionaire is shown gracing the cover page, flashing a smile against the backdrop of the Transfiguration image of Jesus Christ.

Printed by Brown Madonna Press—part of the Fortune Group and winner of the first prize in the Printing Industries Association of the Philippines award for Best Printer (newspaper category, for printing the BusinessMirror)—the book contains 15 chapters, highlighting the many episodes of Tony’s life, from poverty to his hard-earned success in the fiercely competitive world of business.

In commissioning the writing of a book, Tony—a former Philippine ambassador to Laos and a reserved colonel in the Armed Forces of the Philippines—said he wants to convey the lessons he has learned in life to those who want to embark on their own journey to success.

Reflecting a timeless value taught to him by his mother Dominga, after whom three buildings owned by Tony in the financial district of Makati were named, he says of the book: “I want to share my experience with the young people.”

He himself has involved all his children in overseeing the family’s wide array of business ventures.

Tony, a known philantropist, has built a business empire, spanning insurance, banking and finance to property, tourism, entertainment, media, health care, mining, car dealership and hotels.
