IN
accordance with the 110th Independence Day celebration
today, the north and southbound lanes of
Roxas Boulevard
in Manila from Katigbak to T.M. Kalaw Streets will be
closed at exactly 6 a.m.
Vehicles
going north on Roxas Blvd shall turn right on T.M. Kalaw
and turn left on Ma. Orosa.
Those
going southward coming from Delpan Bridge-Pier Zone
shall turn left on P. Burgos and turn right on Ma. Orosa.
Meanwhile, all vehicles coming from the McArthur, Jones
and Quezon Bridges and going to the southbound lane of
Roxas Boulevard from P. Burgos shall take Round Table
and Ma. Orosa to the point of destination.
This
year’s Independence Day program will feature interesting
cultural, arts and trade shows, and government services
for free.
More
than 100 booths are set up from June 9 to 12 at the San
Lorenzo Ruiz Plaza at the Rizal Park in Manila, the
Sentro K:3 area, this year’s Independence Day
centerpiece.
The
President will deliver her Independence Day message at
Sentro K3 area.
Vice
President Noli de Castro will lead the flag- raising and
wreath-laying rites at the E. Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit,
Cavite. There will be a caravan to the resettlement site
in Trece Martires for the Bigasan ng Bayan, bagsakan,
commodities, medical mission and the Gawad Kalinga
Building programs.
People
outside Metro Manila will witness similar programs
because the activities will be replicated in other
regions.
Sentro
K:3 will showcase everything that is best about the
Filipino—services, sports activities, exhibits, sales,
fairs, songs, art works, and other cultural fare,
medical assistance, cultural and historical tours,
extension of government services and more, said
Department of Tourism (DOT) director Ting de los Reyes.
It
features Ang Galing Natin booths with exhibits and
lectures and audiovisual shows. The Bayan Ko, Lapit sa
Puso Ko will have government agencies provide projects
in terms of jobs, housing, health cards, micro finance
loans, and scholarships, while The Lakad-Aral sa Liwasan
will offer park tours to visitors, and the One Town, One
Product will showcase the best of Philippine products
from all regions of the country.
There
will also be book sales at discounted prices, and an
agri-aqua fair and exhibit featuring demonstrations on
meat and fruit processing.
In the
afternoon, teams from all over the country will show off
their skills in artistic showmanship, alignment and
synchronized movements in the drum and bugle exhibition.
The Philippine Military Academy will perform a Silent
Drill Exhibition.
All
these will be capped by a special fireworks display and
the simultaneous blowing of fog horns, church bells,
fire trucks and sirens.
Cabinet
secretaries have been tasked to lead propoor programs
with specific themes and locations in different sites in
all the regions.
Around
28 Cabinet secretaries will bring government services,
distribute land titles, provide conditional
cash-transfer cards, textbooks and training manuals, as
well as health cards and food-security services.
President Arroyo has tasked the Cabinet to assist in the
simultaneous flag-raising and wreath- laying activities
nationwide that will, at the same time, bring
antipoverty services to the people.
Education Secretary Jesli Lapus will assist her as the
national chairman of this year’s event.
In Metro
Manila, Presidential Management Staff Secretary Cerge
Remonde will lead a forum featuring successful
beneficiaries of micro enterprise and Go Negosyo
entrepreneurs and mentors. The event will be capped with
the awarding of microfinance loans to borrowers and give
out scholarships to seminars on entrepreneurship.
Metro
Manila Development Authority Chairman Bayani Fernando
will lead in the cleaning of esteros, inauguration of a
“condotel” and head the feeding program in Divisoria
after the flag-raising rites in Rizal Park.
At the
Mausoleo de los Veteranos in the North Cemetery, Defense
Secretary Gilberto Teodoro will inaugurate the new
hardware of the DND as part of the AFP’s modernization
program. He will also lead in the road clearing and
dredging at the Smokey Mountain in Tondo.
From
Pugad Lawin in Quezon City, Social Welfare Secretary
Esperanza Cabral will proceed to Payatas where she will
distribute conditional cash transfer funds to
family-beneficiaries, lead a supplemental feeding for
children, and conduct a brain quiz for out-of-school
youths.
Lapus
will launch educational programs and textbook shipment.
He will also inspect a computer laboratory in Sta. Mesa
in response to the need of the youth and students for
their academic/technical education. |
