NG plans to borrow P35B more

THE national government will sell more peso-denominated debts worth more or less P35 billion, Finance Undersecretary and Acting Treasurer Roberto Tan confirmed Tuesday.

The additional peso borrowing will be on top of another P40 billion in foreign-currency bonds the Department of Finance anticipates selling later this year.

Change in Filipino lifestyle to ease energy woes—ADB, DOE

WITH soaring oil prices already an inescapable reality, there is now a greater need for Filipinos to start changing their lifestyles in order to ease the pressure on the country’s growing energy problems.

The Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Department of Energy (DOE) and other guest speakers were one in saying this during the Clean Energy Forum 2008 at the Manila-based lender’s headquarters Tuesday.

More VAT relief options offered

THE Presidential Commission on Good Government (PCGG) Tuesday appealed to the House of Representatives to fast-track approval of the proposed measure to extend the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) for five years because of 1.86 million hectares of agricultural lands that have not been placed under the land-reform law.

Malacañang: No link with snap-polls move

MALACAÑANG distanced itself on Tuesday from a House bill calling for a snap presidential election to resolve questions on the mandate of a sitting president in times of crisis.

House Bill 3859, authored by Nueva Ecija Rep. Eduardo Nonato Joson, was endorsed Monday by members of the House Committee on Suffrage, chaired by Makati City Rep. Teodoro Locsin Jr.
