PHONE
maker Sony Ericsson has introduced two new
design-centric phones that combine advanced
communications and multimedia functions and connectivity
with design aesthetics.
A slim
3G phone, the T650i, boasts of a stainless-steel body
and scratch-proof screen made of mineral glass. The
slider phone S500i, meanwhile, has various desktop and
menu themes that adapts according to the season or time
of day.
The
T650i’s keypad and its sides interact with the animation
shown on screen. As the animations move on the display
screen, it also sets off waves of light over the keypad,
illuminating further the phone’s stainless steel body.
It has a
12.5-mm body, a 3.2-megapixel camera, auto focus
capability and a 1.9-inch, scratch-proof screen. The
mineral glass content of the screen contributes to
stronger colors and improved visibility even when viewed
under heavy lighting, and also widens the screen’s
viewing angle up to 170 degrees. Plus, it has Bluetooth
capability, where one can stream music directly from the
phone to a Bluetooth-capable headset.
The Sony
Ericsson S500i slider phone, on the other hand, is about
14-mm thick and its changing desktop and menu themes
remain its biggest differentiating factor from other
phones in the market. Users can configure their desktop
or phone menu theme to change automatically depending on
the season or time of day or week.
Steve
Walker, head of product Marketing at Sony Ericsson, said
that Sony Ericsson designers focused heavily on the
design aspect. “Our designers have taken inspiration
from nature and the Nordic light to produce phones that
are beautiful to look at and alive with energy. They
appeal to those who want to celebrate their
individuality and express themselves through their
choice of phone.”
The
S500i has a 2.0-megapixel camera, a media player and an
expandable memory stick slot for bigger storage
capability whether for photos or music. Its Disc2Phone
music management software provides for easy transfer of
music from the PC to the phone, or move photos from the
phone to the PC without the need for any software, since
the phone appears as a hard drive once it is connected
to the PC. It also has the same Bluetooth 2.0
connectivity, just like the T650i.
The
T650i will be available in selected markets by the third
quarter of this year, while the S500i will be in shops
in selected markets beginning the second quarter of
2007. |
