SAN BEDA College blasted away at College of Saint Benilde, 4-0, Sunday to snatch its seventh straight men’s football crown in Season 83 of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the PhilSports Field.

The Red Lions now also own the most number of NCAA football crowns, beating De La Salle which won from 1971 to 1973 and 1975 to 77. There was no football event during the 1974 NCAA season.

In juniors action, La Salle-Greenhills prevented a San Beda sweep by blanking the Red Cubs, 3-0. It was La Salle’s sixth-straight crown.

Gerardo Valmayor of the Junior Blazers took the Most Valuable Player (MVP) plum, while his coach Alfredo Rey was named Coach of the Year.

“It’s [seven straight crowns] the big motivation that I used on my players,” said San Beda coach Aris Caslib.

Nicolas Erwin Leonora knocked goals in the sixth and 41st minute to set the tone for the San Beda rout. Joseph Rojo and Jerome Orcollo made it a lopsided affair in the 47th and 58th, respectively.

Orcollo was named MVP, while Caslib earned Coach of the Year honors.

The other awardees were Christian Adonis Tan of Mapua (Best Goalkeeper), Eliezer Fabroada of San Beda (Best Defender), June Antonio Abiera of San Beda (Best Midfielder) and Mark Ed Lusung of Saint Benilde (Best Scorer).
