    LOVE HANG OVER

THE confession of ever-controversial actress-singer Gretchen Barretto to her manager, TV host Boy Abunda, in ABS-CBN’s ‘The Buzz’ somehow stole the attention of millions of Filipinos from the ongoing Senate investigation into the NBN-ZTE scandal via revelations of witness Rodolfo Noel “Jun” Lozada Jr.

La Greta, as she is fondly called, easily stole the limelight from, ugh, Los Lozada.

First on Los Lozada—some brilliant show biz observers we know were asking us from the very beginning if Jun is related to the long-departed comedian Ike Lozada. If the late Ike was fond of making people laugh, the living Jun easily makes millions of Filipinos smile and, yes, laugh at the very bad, sad state we’re in: that the ZTE scandal is just but one of the many. Only it was the one exposed.

Now if Ike had German “Kuya Germs” Moreno as his onetime sidekick, who would fit the role for Los Lozada? Who will be the “Germs”?

And since Lozada is a now byword, our brilliant friends also suggested that it’s time for that chain of swimming schools to promote its summer lessons. Even if summer is still a month-and-a-half away, the Bert Lozada Swim School should strike the iron while the name is hot. Think about the come-on campaign: "The water will set you free!"

Going back to La Greta: no matter how earnestly her manager denied it, there can be no denying that the confession comes just as she is promoting the release of her debut album, titled ‘Unexpected’. People who watched the talk show were not surprised if she related each song in the album with various episodes in her colorful life. It’s just show biz after all.

Most notable was the song “An Affair to Remember.” She then talked about her alleged affair with businessman Dodie Puno. But La Greta maintained that it’s only 10 percent true and 90 percent fabrication. When asked about the details, she said it wasn’t time yet, though she admitted to being hurt because the people who spread the rumor were those whom she trusted and loved. She added that everything notwithstanding, she still deserves a happy ending. Meaning, to wed the man she loves.

Much earlier, she and partner Tony Boy Cojuangco attended Sen. Jinggoy Estrada’s birthday party. Their first public appearance together after the controversy. Proof that everything is hunky-dory then.

Let’s just hope people buy her album. If no one does, the usual kibitzers suggest that La Greta buy them all and give these to her detractors. The word is that the initial number of CDs hitting the market is nothing to sneeze at that, should La Greta decide to scoop up every single copy for such purpose, then that would make her debut go platinum faster than the Pussy Cat Dolls’.

    THE SONGBIRD REMAINS KAPUSO

IT’S not as if she was caged, no.

Regine Velasquez, Asia’s Songbird, was all tears in last Sunday’s noontime concert TV show, GMA’s SOP. Many thought it was proof that she’s leaving GMA for good. Over the past couple of weeks, rumors had swirled that ABS-CBN gave her an offer that was not just merely tempting but totally compelling: a solo variety show for her, plus album and movie contracts.

GMA executives apparently called for an emergency meeting with the Songbird on Monday morning and though the Kapuso Network didn’t exactly match what ABS-CBN offered, there were new projects given to Regine. One of which is a prime-time soap opera that will have her as lead. It’s just but time, isn’t it?

Regine has been with GMA and hosting SOP for the longest time and having a new show or soap is something she has long deserved. She’s definitely an asset to whatever TV network she’s signed with.

But at this point, many observed that settling down, having a baby and a family of her own must be her priority. She’s not getting any younger. Opportunity to work will always be there because she is already the Regine Velasquez. Isn’t it high time for her to slow down a bit?

What has been Ogie Alcasid doing lately? Work on the baby, little big brother.
