IN response to the launch of Microsoft’s Vista operating system, Valueline Systems and Solutions Corp. (VSSC) has updated its NOD32 antivirus software to become the first Vista-ready, computer virus protection in the world today.

VSSC, a technology solutions provider, said in an interview with BusinessMirror that its award-winning NOD32 Antivirus software version 2.5 can be upgraded to version 2.7 via a Web download to make it Vista compatible. Valueline is a local company that distributes one of the strongest and most comprehensive antivirus software in the world market.

“Actually, once subscribers install version 2.5, they get free automatic upgrade to version 2.7 via a program component upgrade or PCU. They just have to reboot the system to complete the installation,” explains Niño Mendoza, Research & Development team leader at VSCC.

Mendoza said that the downloadable version has been available worldwide since the second week of November last year but only for the subscribed version.

Microsoft claims that the Vista is their most secure and stable operating system yet, but Mendoza said that the NOD32 version 2.7 provides additional security for the new Microsoft operating system.

“Version 2.7 provides better performance in terms of virus detection for Vista users.” Mendoza said. “It is able to detect new forms of viruses in the wild.”

The version 2.7 detects Root Kit scripts used by programmers of malicious software to hide them from any antivirus detection software. “NOD32’s Anti-Stealth capability detects these Root Kit scripts and exposes them to prevent the malicious software from spreading further,” says Mendoza.

Mendoza said that VSSC expects many businesses to migrate to Vista, considering the popularity the new operating system has been enjoying worldwide during its beta testing stage. He added that many businesses would benefit from NOD32’s proactive approach when it comes to detecting viruses.

“It has been NOD32’s mission to protect businesses, especially for those who will switch to Vista, from existing viruses and perhaps even from those viruses that are yet to be created against Vista, if that would be possible. This proactive, compared to reactive, approach has been the heart and soul of NOD32 anti-virus products ever since,” Mendoza said.

The NOD32 Antivirus System is a consistent winner of the Virus Bulletin 100% Awards, the only product that has never missed a single On The Wild (OTW) viruses. NOD32 has an integrated, real-time protection against all known viruses, worms, Trojans, spyware, adware, phishing, and has best detection, fastest performance, and smallest footprint among antivirus software products today.
